Mick Jagger Announces Presidential Endorsement Day Before Election

Singer Mick Jagger has publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday in the 2024 presidential race just a day before Election Day.
The 81-year old frontman of The Rolling Stones made his announcement in an Instagram post with pictures of six of his eight children on Monday as he reminded people to vote and revealed his kids were backing Harris.
“DON’T FORGET TO VOTE -JAGGER KIDS ARE VOTING FOR KAMALA,” Jagger said in the all caps caption.
One photo shows the singer joined by his four daughters, Karis, 54, who he shares with Marsha Hunt, Jade, 43, from ex-wife Bianca Jagger, and Elizabeth, 40, and Georgia May, 32, who he shares with Jerry Hall.
The second photo saw Jagger alongside his son James, 39, from his relationship with Hall and Lucas, 25, who he shares with model Luciana Gimenez Morad.
While Jagger is English and unable to participate in the U.S elections, some of his children are able to vote.
Newsweek reached out to Harris’ and Trump’s campaign via email for comment.
The endorsement comes after the singer has actively spoken about U.S. politics in the past, more specifically in this election season in which Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, will face off against Donald Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, on Tuesday.
In June, during a concert by The Rolling Stones at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Jagger spoke to the crowd about the election as he seemingly made a reference to the 11,780 votes Trump had asked Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to help him find following the 2020 election.
During a call on January 2, 2021, the former president asked Raffensperger to help him “find 11,780 votes” and overturn the state’s 2020 election results in his favor, the call helped spark the opening of a criminal investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, while Jagger was introducing the fan’s choice song, “Sweet Virginia,” he admitted the band had wanted to play “Wild Horses” but that they needed 11,00 more votes, adding that a “more important vote” is coming in November.
In response in a previous emailed statement to Newsweek, Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung condemned Jagger, adding that Trump “will return to the White House” while taking aim at President Joe Biden, who had not yet stepped down from the Democratic ticket.
Who Else Has Endorsed Harris?
Meanwhile, Jagger is not the first celebrity to announce their endorsement for Harris in the last days leading up to Tuesday’s election.
Actor Harrison Ford publicly endorsed Harris on Saturday, adding his voice to an expanding coalition of entertainment industry figures backing the Democratic nominee.
The 82-year-old Indiana Jones star made his announcement in a campaign video released Saturday by the Harris-Walz campaign, where he stressed the importance of protecting democratic institutions and the rule of law while criticizing Trump.
“I’m Harrison Ford. I’ve got one vote, same as anyone else, and I’m going to use it to move forward. I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris,” Ford declared in the video, taking direct aim at Trump’s leadership style. “The other guy, he demands unquestioning loyalty, says he wants revenge.”
Jagger and Ford join an increasingly prominent roster of entertainment industry figures who have publicly endorsed Harris. The list includes some of the biggest names in popular culture, spanning multiple generations and genres.
Musical artists Taylor Swift, Eminem, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin and Bruce Springsteen have all voiced their support. Many famous actors have also thrown their support behind Harris, including Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Don Cheadle and Mark Hamill.
